Welcome to our School Council page
What is the School Council?
A new school council is elected each year, with representatives from Year 1 upwards. This creates a central group that speaks on behalf of the whole-school and makes decisions about school life. We value the opinions of our pupils and the School Council gives pupils a forum to share these opinions with the Head Teacher and other members of staff.
What we do
Our School Council has the very important task of listening to the views and ideas of pupils at Sunnybrow Primary. We are dedicated to constantly improving our school and we speak on behalf of the children in our school. Our School Council, which meets every half term, is supported by Mrs Leddy and Mis Kitching.
As well as speaking on behalf of the children in our school, the School Council are also given a project to achieve in school across the year. Last year, the School Council played an active role in helping our school gain the Wellbeing Award for Schools. This year, the School Council were tasked with developing an awareness across school of the importance of a balanced diet.
We started by researching what a balanced diet is then investigated how nutritious our packed lunches and tuck shops were. From there, we revised our school food policy with Mrs Leddy and Ms Kitching and created new guidelines for packed lunches. In cookery club, we created some different recipes that could be used in packed lunches and made a display of our work in the hall.
